Anyway of checking the isolated 24volt IOs ?
Why is the D type smartmotor have PIN 11 on the M12 plug as a +24 volt input
and the M type has that same pin as a +24 volt output?

For trouble shooting the isolated I/O on a D type... I would check the -AD1 I/O using our SMI2 software... along with a meter...and Motor View status word 17(you have to power pins 11 and 12 for that port to work).
I would use the same kind of setup for troubleshooting the M type... but the on board I/O will show up on the Status tab of Motor View... like the D type does with on board I/O.
As for the difference... The M type was our first IP65 motor... and that was a total design change from the D type design on connectors... what they are and where we can cram them in on the back of a Nema23 or Nema34 motor.
Make sure you download the correct prints from the website... 🙂

That's what I figured but I may have a bad port on this smart motor.
When I apply 24vdc to pin 11 ( brown wire) and - to pin 12 (blue)
my power supply indicated a short condition or backfeed exists.
I'm reading .4 mVDC between pins 11 and 12
Is this normal ?
I was using pg 58 of the user guide and pg 168 of the catalog for
the wiring information.
Thought I would ask the question about the motor difference as I though it
could have been a typo in the cat.

Did the polarity get crossed up?
No , polarity was as indicated. I talked with one of your techs and I,m going to return the motor for inspection . Thanks
