Hi,
I am using a SM3410D, serial number E10628, firmware 4.13, build date 5/07/01. When in the SMI software it shows this motor as a 2315D. Can i update the firmware? I am using it with a 3rd party control software in MF4 follow mode. It works fine except I cannot achieve positional accuracy(varies after running in a loop). I think the problem i am having is with my motion controller but i want to eliminate the "incorrect ID" as a possible problem because in the manual it says " the 2315D does not have quadrature encoder following capability". I have adjusted the "units per inch" many times with no resolve. I also have a SM3450 and a SM3420 on the same setup that work fine. Thank you.

Dave

Hi Dave,
The firmware for that motor can not be upgraded in the field. The SMI2 software doesn't recognize the model number because that information was not stamped in the EEPROM like it is with V4.15 and above.
Mode follow is supported on that motor though, so the problem is most likely due to electrical noise or the motion controller.
