Hi All,

I have an SM3450D-PLS2 smartmotor that will be operating in a remote location. I will be using a serial device server (Currently using Newport/Omega iServers) to communicate with the device. I am able to communicate with the motor via PuTTY and operate the motor properly, however I cannot connect to the motor using SMI when I redirect serial data to the TCP/IP connection of the device server. I have verified that the serial port redirection works, as I can communicate with the motor over this virtual serial port as well using PuTTY.

I would prefer to be able to communicate with the device through the device server for configuration as the device will be difficult to access when it is installed on site as opposed to being on my test bench.

The Serial Port Redirecter I am using is HW Virtual Serial Port.

In short, I can connect to the SmartMotor using SMI if I plug the serial cable directly into my computer. I can connect to it using PuTTY with both TCP/IP and Serial Port Redirection to TCP/IP. I cannot connect to it using SMI with serial port redirection.

I'm not sure if SMI does something with the other serial pins (DTE, DCR, etc) or if there is a different serial device server and/or Serial Port Redirection software out there that would allow the SMI software to configure the device in the field without needing to acquire a manlift to access it.

Does anyone have a working combo that allow connecting to a remote motor using SMI for configuration?
